LA – Pace and Contrast
Compare the design (in terms of pace and contrast) of an online magazine, blog or website to that of a printed magazine, book or journal. What differences can you see between the kinds of design strategies used in the two formats?Write down your findings and upload it to WordPress.
In this task I have chosen to compare the front page of a VG newspaper and the online edition.
The first thing I think about is that both uses big pictures and extended font in the headers. The paper version uses more colors on its front page than the online edition. Vg net uses the same font as headline in all the articles and in the paper version all the cases have different font. This makes the web version look more tidy.
Both varriants are very flashy. It feels a bit like you get the cases thrown at you. One thing that destroys the layout of the web version is all the commercial advertising.
When it comes to advertising, it flashes over the entire web version. It is almost the same amount of room for the advertising spots as there is for the articles. In the paper edition there is no commercial advertising on the front page. There are some spots inside but not nearly as much as the online edition has.
